🎯 Objective

Prepare learners with the technical, practical, and professional skills required to work as skilled carpenters in construction, furniture-making, and finishing carpentry across India.


📅 Duration Options

  • Short-term skill course (6 months) → Focus on job readiness (Skill India style).

  • Full ITI-style course (1–2 years) → Comprehensive training.

  • Modular training → Can be delivered in 8 modules, each 2–8 weeks.


📖 Course Syllabus (India-Oriented)

Module 1: Introduction to Carpentry (2 weeks)

  • Role of carpenters in India (construction, furniture, interior, modular kitchens).

  • Basic workshop rules and housekeeping.

  • Identification of timber, plywood, blockboard, laminates, MDF.

  • Familiarity with carpentry terminology in Hindi & English.

Practical: Identify types of wood used in local markets.


Module 2: Safety & Workshop Practices (2 weeks)

  • PPE (gloves, safety glasses, masks, shoes).

  • Safe use of hand tools & electrical tools.

  • Fire safety & first aid basics.

  • Handling adhesives, paints, and chemicals.

Practical: Safety drill & accident response role-play.


Module 3: Hand Tools, Power Tools & Materials (6 weeks)

  • Hand tools: saws, chisels, planes, hammers, screwdrivers, clamps.

  • Power tools: electric drill, grinder, circular saw, router, jigsaw.

  • Maintenance of tools.

  • Fasteners: nails, screws, dowels, brackets, adhesives.

Practical: Practice cutting, drilling, sanding, assembling frames.


Module 4: Joinery & Woodworking Basics (8 weeks)

  • Measuring, marking, cutting with precision.

  • Common wood joints: butt joint, lap joint, dovetail, mortise & tenon.

  • Adhesives & gluing techniques.

  • Surface preparation: sanding, filing, polishing.

Practical: Make a small stool or box with proper joinery.


Module 5: Furniture & Cabinet Making (10 weeks)

  • Basics of furniture design (beds, tables, chairs, cupboards).

  • Modular furniture concepts (kitchen, wardrobes).

  • Use of hardware: hinges, locks, handles, sliders.

  • Polishing, varnishing, laminate pasting.

Practical: Build a small cabinet, chair, or modular box unit.


Module 6: Construction Carpentry (8 weeks)

  • Shuttering (formwork for concrete).

  • Doors, windows, and staircase basics.

  • False ceiling and flooring with wood/ply.

  • Blueprint reading for construction carpentry.

Practical: Make a door/window frame model.


Module 7: Advanced Carpentry & Modern Tools (6 weeks)

  • CNC & laser cutting introduction.

  • Decorative woodwork & carving.

  • Use of electric planer, orbital sander, table saw.

  • Veneer & laminate application techniques.

Practical: Create a decorative carved/laminated panel.


Module 8: Entrepreneurship & Employability (2 weeks)

  • Estimation & costing of carpentry work.

  • Dealing with clients, contractors, interior designers.

  • How to set up a carpentry workshop in India.

  • Basics of GST & billing for carpentry services.

Practical: Prepare a quotation for a modular kitchen project.


🛠️ Assessment

  • Internal Tests: Theory + practical after each module.

  • Final Project: Build a furniture piece (e.g., table, cupboard, or door frame).

  • Viva: Safety + tool handling.


📜 Certifications (India)

Learners can pursue certifications like:
